  Atheist with crisis of conscience. Please help.

  i'm an atheist having a serious crisis of conscience.

  please help.. i've read many, many posts that talk about atheism as a faith as distinct as any other faith.

  there has also been much made of the atheist lifestyle.. my dilemma -- i don't know what the atheistic faith entails.

  A well written and fair post tec.

  I am sometimes called an atheist but I resent being given such a lable just because I have not embraced the risen Jesus. I have not embraced Allah, Yahweh, Thor or Odin either.

  Some find comfort in believing that there is a powerful God in charge somewhere out there or deep in their hearts. Others are angered by this because they have decided they do not believe, so they don't see why others should enjoy something they are unable to.

  I DO NOT KNOW where the universe came from. In the same way that religious people DO NOT KNOW where a creator would have come from.

  The fact is that despite all the labels on offer - NONE OF US ACTUALLY KNOW!

  An Explanation of why TIME TRAVEL does not work

  energy and matter are neither created nor destroyed.. consequently, the building blocks of existence are actually finite parts.. to create things in "tomorrow" which are new, something has to be dismantled to leave spare parts for tomorrow's new thing.. the old thing deteriorates, (dies/disintegrates) and the parts become available to make the new thing.. time travel requires going to a place where today's parts are available to be rearranged.. some of today's things persist as they are, of course.

  they only travel through time by persisting as they are.

  (mountains, for example.).

  I think Terry's original post was very clear. The components for the physical environment that we inhabit right now were salvaged from previous physical realities. They can only be used at one time.

  Even if it were possible to return them to their original forms it would mean dismantling our present physical reality. To do that we would have to die. More importantly, who would arrange all this?

  If we make a list of the things we don't know and add them up we cannot simply shout: THIS MUST MEAN GOD!

  There are plenty here that will! At that point anything is possible. We can achieve anything we want in our imagination but the physical universe is bound by reality.

  Why is god hiding?

  what god could have done to show himself:.

  he could have left incontrovertible evidence of his existence.he could have made it impossibly evident that mankind has been here only 6000 years, not the 200,000 give or take, that fossil evidence supports.

  he could have provided evidence through jesus to millions of non-believers, instead of focusing on a small band of fanatical followers eager to point to 'the messiah'.he could at any time, being the ultimate of beings, just simply show himself in the sky, speak to millions instead of to the lonely occasional deluded sheepherder in the desert, or provide miracles to millions of us as observers - part the ocean, cure cancer and announce it from heaven in a clear unmistakable voice, or instantaneously stop starvation and plague in it's tracks.

  In answer to the thread title - No!

  When religion dies it will float off to an invisible realm where it will continue to thrive among invisible beings.

  Those in charge will; make vast sums of invisible money. But as everything is invisible, and spirits don't eat drink, marry or have homes and cars, there will be nothing to spend it on.

  Those in this blissful state will not be able to say to non believers,'I told you so,' because the unbelievers will be far away burning in invisible flames in an invisible hell.

  Of course those of us on planet earth will know nothing of all this nor will we be contacted or kept informed by these unreachably high spirits.

  How many here desire 'Reality' over the fantasy of eternal life?

  me.. wasting time believing in such silliness is like hoping one day to turn into mickey mouse.

  why not accept life now, while you have it, and understand that like all others before you, you are going to die too.

  you won't wake from that.

  There is a lot to be said for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass. They have one author, the inspired Lewis Carroll and the main character is female.

  Talking animals; proof that spirits are involved. Alice changing physical shape; mysticism. A mad hatter. Deception; painting the roses red. The queen in charge sets up a rigged court and threatens to chop heads off. Alice tells them they are nothing but a pack of cards and escapes back to reality to realize it all happend inside her head!

  All in all it is great fun, entertaining and utter nonsense. It has all the necessary ingredients to be designated as the real bible.
